The tongue on the eagle sword belt plate is flattened to the back of the plate. the sword has some nicks in the blage edge and the overall sword has a great patina as do both plates. The hilt has a bit of a shake with the blade. This has been in a private collection for decades and originally obtained from the family. Daniel Duesler was in Company B of the Chandler Horse Guards from August 18, 1861 to November 22, 1861, mustering out in Coldwater, Mi. On July 7, 1862 he was commissioned Lieutenant in Company G of the 4th Michigan Cavalry becoming Captain on February 1, 1863. He was discharged for disability on June 27, 1863. A nice grouping in near untouched condition. During Duesler's time in, the 4th was frequently engaged with Col. John Hunt Morgan and C.S. Gen. Nathan B. Forrest. |
